Pedorthic Assessment
An assessment of the lower limb
alignment, movement pattern, general function of the foot and the
interaction of the foot with the rest of the body.
Gait Analysis
The observation of the lower extremity in motion, to determine deviations in
alignment, movement pattern and symmetry.
Custom Foot Orthoses (Orthotics)
Foot appliances placed within shoes which are manufactured from
three-dimensional images of the foot.
Custom Made Footwear
Footwear that is manufactured from a three-dimensional image of the foot and
lower leg. Footwear can be functional or accommodative.
Footwear
Modification/Customized Footwear
The adaptation of footwear to accommodate deformity and/or improve
function of the foot and lower limb.
Over the Counter (OTC)
Footbed (Insole)
Prefabricated commercial insoles that the Certified Pedorthist can modify
with the addition of posting, padding and/or metatarsal support.
Therapeutic/Orthopedic Shoes
Provides a stable base for an orthoses to sit on. Appropriate footwear is
crucial, and an orthosis is rendered less effective by placing it within
inferior footwear.
Specialty Footwear
Post-op shoes and forefoot and rearfoot relief shoes.
